The purpose of the Whatcom Chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington is to preserve and enhance the right to use horses and mules for recreation on public lands. The primary chapter goal is to develop and keep trails open for responsible recreational use. Chapter business is discussed at monthly chapter meetings, providing members and guests with the opportunity to exchange information with others whose interest is in trail riding and maintaining access to public lands.
There are periodic seminars and workshops emphasizing the Leave No Trace (LNT) education program. These programs provide essential information about how to tread lightly on the land so we may both maintain and retain our rights to use horses and mules on public land.
